Impact

The financial model helped make free access to the museum sustainable in perpetuity, removing barriers for visitors and strengthening Glenbow’s role as a cultural asset for all.

Larkspur developed a comprehensive financial and operational model to support the full renewal and reimagining of Glenbow Museum as an accessible cultural institution open to everyone. The model evaluated and projected operating revenues and expenses across all key program and visitor experience elements — including the gift shop, event and program spaces, membership models, restaurant and catering services, and proposed pay-zone exhibit strategies. By grounding the project vision in financial sustainability, the model helped articulate how Glenbow could expand access, deepen community impact, and ensure long-term operational viability.

This work formed a critical foundation for Glenbow’s case for support, directly informing advocacy and funding strategies at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. It supported securing historic contributions, including a transformational gift establishing free admission forever, positioning Glenbow as a cultural anchor and public gathering place for the region.

Larkspur Projects is located in Calgary, on the ancestral and traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy — the Niitsitapi peoples, including the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikani. We also acknowledge the shared lands of the Tsuut’ina (Dene) and the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney) Nations — Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney. This is also the homeland of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, including Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Districts 5 and 6.

The place we now call Calgary has long been known as Moh’kins’tsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by the Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyârhe Nakoda. We recognize, honour, and give thanks to the original caretakers of this land, and commit ourselves to building respectful relationships with the peoples whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to shape this place.
