The Stories Behind The Spaces

In their
words ...

The most powerful measure of our work is the voices of those we partner with. Our clients — from governments and Indigenous communities to nonprofits and private developers — trust us to bring their visions to life. Here, they share what it means to work alongside Larkspur.

Working with Lori Van Rooijen and Larkspur Projects has been transformational. Their deep expertise in strategic development and capital projects ensure every vision is understood and realized. They listen, execute, and deliver outstanding results.

YW Hub Facility, YW Calgary

Larkspur's strength in understanding city processes, design and construction, and securing funding was invaluable to our team. Their ability to think strategically on complex issues, and their commitment to understanding the impact of these facilities on the women and families we serve, was particularly helpful. I can recommend Larkspur without question.

Indigenous Gathering Place

Larkspur was instrumental in helping us navigate our partnership with the City of Calgary. Their expertise and guidance supported us through complex land negotiations and opened doors to critical funding opportunities. With their leadership, we were able to move our vision for the Indigenous Gathering Place closer to reality. Larkspur’s ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and keep projects moving forward has been invaluable to our journey.

Our Stories

Every project has a story — not just about buildings, but about people, communities, and the lasting impact of shared vision. On our blog, we share behind-the-scenes insights, lessons learned, and stories of transformation from the projects we’ve had the privilege to support.

Larkspur Projects is located in Calgary, on the ancestral and traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy — the Niitsitapi peoples, including the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikani. We also acknowledge the shared lands of the Tsuut’ina (Dene) and the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney) Nations — Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney. This is also the homeland of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, including Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Districts 5 and 6.

The place we now call Calgary has long been known as Moh’kins’tsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by the Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyârhe Nakoda. We recognize, honour, and give thanks to the original caretakers of this land, and commit ourselves to building respectful relationships with the peoples whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to shape this place.
