Education spaces shape more than how people learn, they shape how communities grow.
From early childhood classrooms to post-secondary campuses, the environments where learning takes place play a powerful role in identity, belonging, and opportunity. When education spaces are thoughtfully planned and community-informed, they become places where culture is celebrated, relationships are built, and future generations are supported to thrive.
At Larkspur Projects, we work alongside educators, community leaders, and institutional partners to help bring education projects to life, supporting spaces that are functional, flexible, and grounded in the communities they serve.
Education as Community Infrastructure
Schools, colleges, and learning centres are often among the most important community infrastructure assets. They are gathering places. Safe spaces. Hubs of connection that extend well beyond the school day.
That’s why our approach to education projects goes beyond bricks and mortar.
We support projects that:
Reflect cultural identity and community values
Adapt to evolving teaching models and enrolment needs
Create welcoming, inclusive environments for students and staff
Balance long-term sustainability with day-to-day functionality
By grounding planning in both purpose and practicality, we help education partners navigate complexity while keeping learners at the centre.
Supporting Learning Across the Lifespan
Larkspur’s education portfolio spans early learning, K–12, and post-secondary environments, each with its own needs, challenges, and opportunities.
Mi’kai’sto Red Crow Community College
As one of Canada’s leading Indigenous post-secondary institutions, Red Crow Community College plays a critical role in advancing education rooted in Blackfoot knowledge, language, and worldview.
Our work supported the development of learning environments that honour cultural teachings while meeting modern post-secondary requirements, creating space for academic growth, cultural continuity, and community leadership.
Issoitapi Elementary School
Issoitapi Elementary School represents the importance of culturally grounded learning from the earliest years. The school’s design and planning reflect Blackfoot values and community identity, helping students feel seen, supported, and proud of who they are.
Projects like Issoitapi demonstrate how education spaces can strengthen belonging and confidence from childhood onward.
St. Mary’s University College Campus Development
Post-secondary institutions must evolve to meet changing student needs, academic programming, and campus life.
Through campus development planning for St. Mary’s University College, Fergal, in his former role, supported long-term thinking on growth, functionality, and future readiness, helping align physical spaces with the institution's vision and sustainability goals.
Calgary Arts Academy Capital Plan
Education planning is not only about new buildings, it’s also about establishing a clear roadmap ahead.
For Calgary Arts Academy, Larkspur supported the development of a capital plan that provides structure and direction for future growth. This work helps ensure that arts-based learning environments can continue to foster creativity, expression, and innovation for years to come.
Designing for Flexibility and the Future
Education is constantly evolving, from teaching methods and technology to enrolment patterns and community expectations. Spaces must be able to evolve alongside them.
Across all education projects, we prioritize:
Flexible, multi-use environments
Scalable planning approaches
Long-term operational sustainability
Clear alignment between vision, funding, and delivery
This forward-looking lens helps institutions make confident decisions today while remaining adaptable for tomorrow.
Together, We Build Community
At its heart, education is about possibility, and the spaces where learning happens should reflect that.
At Larkspur Projects, we are proud to support education partners in building environments where learning, culture, and community come together. From early learning to post-secondary institutions, our work is grounded in collaboration, respect, and a shared commitment to long-term impact.
Because when learning spaces are thoughtfully designed, they don’t just support education, they help communities thrive.
