Impact

Families experiencing homelessness can stay in shelter with dignity in a trauma-informed, thoughtfully designed space. Completed on time and on budget, the Neoma project has received multiple national awards for both its facility and its integrated art program, setting a new standard for supportive housing in Calgary.

Larkspur coordinated the design and construction of Inn from the Cold’s new downtown facility within the Neoma building, owned by HomeSpace. Our role included supporting funding applications, negotiating a long-term lease with HomeSpace, and delivering the project through a construction management approach. The facility provides 80 affordable housing units, 10 transitional housing units, 10 emergency shelter units, and dedicated community and administrative space for IFTC.

In parallel, Larkspur developed an art masterplan for the facility, working with eight artists to create unique commissions for children’s spaces, the dining hall, and wayfinding elements — transforming the environment into a more welcoming and healing space for families in crisis.

Larkspur Projects is located in Calgary, on the ancestral and traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy — the Niitsitapi peoples, including the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikani. We also acknowledge the shared lands of the Tsuut’ina (Dene) and the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney) Nations — Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney. This is also the homeland of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, including Métis Nation Battle River Territory, Districts 5 and 6.

The place we now call Calgary has long been known as Moh’kins’tsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by the Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyârhe Nakoda. We recognize, honour, and give thanks to the original caretakers of this land, and commit ourselves to building respectful relationships with the peoples whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to shape this place.
